WHAT IS TUBERCULOSIS?
Tuberculosis (TB) is a curable infectious disease.
The cause of tuberculosis - tuberculosis bacillus is transmitted in the environment when person with active lung TB infection breathes , speaks, coughs, or sneezes.
Disease usually affects the lungs, but by blood or lymph steram it can disseminated also to other parts of the body, e.g. kidneys, bones, lymph nodes, brain.
Multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) is a TB form that is resistant to the two most powerful first-line anti- TB drugs, with or without resistance to other drugs. Resistance develops if the TB treatment is irregular, inappropriate due different reasons, or drugs are of low-quality. Drug-resistant tuberculosis is much more difficult to treat.
